Companies House update: Fee increases and ECCTA reminder

As from 1 May 2024 Companies House is increasing its fees – please see the new tariff.
It’s really important to send the correct fee, especially on time-critical applications such as the registration of company charges, else Companies House will reject the application and you will have to start again, risking being out of time. Also, be sure to collect the correct amount on your completion statements!
The Registrar has also published a gentle warning notice about the effect of the Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Act. Note in particular that PO Box addresses will no longer be acceptable as a registered office address.
Further, promoters of new companies will be required to confirm that the company is being formed for a lawful purpose. In light of this, Solicitors who form companies on clients’ behalf might wish to review whether they are happy to sign such statements. We advise caution. The Act also introduces more stringent verification of identity checks. Details of these are awaited.
