Our Charity Commitment

Our Community and our Business

At Enderley we are not just a business, but we are part of the community. Recognising that informs how we work. Having a strong sense of community means that we live the values of integrity, tolerance, and diversity. We work at being non-judgmental and open. We are proud that we have clients from diverse backgrounds, many of whom we count not just as clients, but as our friends.

However, having values is not about words on a page, but action. Hence our commitment to supporting the legal community.

Our goal for 2022

At one time or another, each of us at Enderley has been diagnosed with depression or anxiety following life-changing events. We know what it is like to be trying to work, whilst wishing you could hide. We have also seen the impact of our diagnosis on our families, friends, and colleagues. Furthermore, we know how difficult it is to be the colleague of someone who you think is suffering. Recognising these issues, we talk about this subject openly to remove the stigma that surrounds mental health in our legal profession.

Our target for 2022 is to help all our clients train and have at least one accredited mental health first aider in their firm so that there is rapid support for those who are suffering from mental health problems. The mental health first aider is the first point of contact for people with mental health issues.

The first aider not only supports the person suffering, but also give assistance and guidance to their colleagues. Mental health can be frightening, and people do not feel confident about dealing with it.

Often, help is not forthcoming because of lack of knowledge, not a lack of empathy. Finally, the first aider can help to support vulnerable clients, suggesting ways of managing their cases and ensuring they have proper access to legal services.

The Commitment

To support our effort, we will make a small grant to smaller firms towards the cost of training an accredited mental health first aider. A firm member becomes accredited by completing the MFHA England accreditation course. We can arrange for them to attend a training course.

Help us end the stigma of mental health. Join us in supporting your colleagues. You may save someone’s life.
