Our goal for 2022
At one time or another, each of us at Enderley has been diagnosed with depression or anxiety following life-changing events. We know what it is like to be trying to work, whilst wishing you could hide. We have also seen the impact of our diagnosis on our families, friends, and colleagues. Furthermore, we know how difficult it is to be the colleague of someone who you think is suffering. Recognising these issues, we talk about this subject openly to remove the stigma that surrounds mental health in our legal profession.
Our target for 2022 is to help all our clients train and have at least one accredited mental health first aider in their firm so that there is rapid support for those who are suffering from mental health problems. The mental health first aider is the first point of contact for people with mental health issues.
The first aider not only supports the person suffering, but also give assistance and guidance to their colleagues. Mental health can be frightening, and people do not feel confident about dealing with it.
Often, help is not forthcoming because of lack of knowledge, not a lack of empathy. Finally, the first aider can help to support vulnerable clients, suggesting ways of managing their cases and ensuring they have proper access to legal services.
