It is an understatement to say that Ian has had a varied legal career. Starting as the junior clerk in a three partner Cornish law firm and ending up the General Counsel of a global technology company, Ian has worked in diverse areas of the law and different countries. However, the principles the senior partner of that small Cornish law firm taught him stick with him – to be independent, act with integrity and put the client first.
Although he has stepped back from transactional work (he spent many years in property work), he now focuses on key areas of compliance: risk management, anti-money laundering, GDPR and governance. He has extensive training experience, and has run courses for the Law Society, the Law Society of Scotland, MBL Seminars as well as conducting private commissions. He wrote Butterworths In-house Lawyers Handbook and still writes for various journals including the Gazette.
Outside of the law, Ian is a Trustee with lived experience for Together for Mental Wellbeing. He is a member of Chatham House and an associate member of the Institute of Risk Management. But if you ask him, his biggest achievement was introducing Anne to Ed!

Anne is passionate about giving law firm owners and managers the right tools to build their business and thrive in the ever-changing legal landscape.
Highly experienced in law firm practice management, Anne founded Enderley Consulting 12 years ago. Through establishing and managing a high street practice with Ed, then working through a merger, Anne has lived through the highs and lows of running a law firm. She’s acutely aware of all the plates law firm managers have to juggle, and she’s passionate about sharing the benefit of her experience with our clients. There are few issues Anne hasn’t come across (and ultimately resolved) and she’s totally non-judgmental.
As a Law Society accredited Lexcel Consultant and an experienced CQS consultant, Anne helps our clients use compliance creatively to build a robust risk management framework. So far, 100% of our clients have achieved Lexcel (with no referrals) and CQS accreditation at the first attempt under Anne’s expert guidance.
Anne is extremely approachable and enjoys building long-term relationships with our clients.
Areas of special expertise: Lexcel, CQS, COLP and COFA, SRA Transparency Rules.

Ed has worked in private practice, in-house, and in local government at a senior level and has over 3 decades’ experience in legal services. He uses his extensive experience and understanding to advise and support law firms and in-house legal practices, helping them to create and to develop their practices in a compliant and risk-managed way. As a Solicitor and former equity partner, he understands the huge pressures facing law firm owners and managers.
Working collaboratively with clients, Ed identifies gaps and offers practical and effective solutions. He has a 100% success rate in obtaining authorisation for new law firms and ABS’s and has become a tried and trusted adviser as the firms have developed.
A trouble-shooter and a problem-solver, Ed strongly believes in a clear future focus to identify and plan for bumps in the road. He's not afraid of asking the hard questions and has a proactive approach in helping to find workable strategies.
Areas of special expertise: New law firm and ABS authorisation; advising on the SRA Practice and Accounts Rules and AML; risk identification and management in law firms; skills audits and upskilling legal teams.
